CAF President Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Mr Ahmad Ahmad has tested positive for COVID-19. A statement on the website of the continental football governing body on Friday read:”the president after his arrival to Cairo on Oct. 28, presented mild flu symptoms and submitted to the COVID-19 protocol. ”Today, the test results are positive and the president immediately self-isolate for at least the next 14 days at his hotel. ”All those who have come into contact with Ahmad over the past seven days, especially during his trip to Morocco for the Confederation Cup, have been informed and requested to take the necessary measures.”

CAF Postpones Continental Club Competitions Due to COVID-19 Upsurge

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed all the remaining matches in Africa’s two continental club competitions for a second time due to COVID-19 concerns. The postponement was informed by a surge in COVID-19 cases in Morocco which caused cancellation of fixtures in the North African country during the first two weeks of September, Punch reports. Two Moroccan clubs are still in the semi-final stage of the CAF Champions league and Confederations Cup and were scheduled to host the last two rounds of the Confederations Cup. Ahmad Ahmad, CAF chairman during a press conference said the decision was reached after consultations with the various parties. African Football Federations Shortlist Clubs to Partake in Covid-19 Fund Raising Competition by FIFA

World football governing body - FIFA plans to raise funds to combat corona virus through a competition among continental Confederations when clubs are cleared to restart play with fans in stadiums. Each federation is expected to shortlist 16 teams for the competition. CAF Disburses CFA120 million to Member States Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

African football governing body has followed the footsteps of FIFA in disbursing funds to member states to assist in the fight against Corona virus. CAF issued out cheques to representatives of member associations. The continental football governing body will also release an additional 6,393 million CFA francs that will see each federation receiving up to 120 million as subsidy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Football in Africa had been halted in March to curb the growing spread of COVID-19. While some leagues have been nullified, others are trailed by uncertainty and will be hoping on CAF and their federations to decide their fate. (Source:Africa news.com)
