How I Solved Dispute With ASUU In One Night – Jonathan

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has recalled how he ended a four-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,  in a single night. Jonathan disclosed this in Abuja during the 70th birthday celebration of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, put together by Kukah Centre. According to the former president, it required his intervention and determination to resolve the contending issues with the university lecturers. He stated that he had to get involved after several committees set up to resolve the issues failed to achieve any result. ASUU Strike: FG convenes Meeting Of Varsity Councils, VCs

The Federal Government has convened a meeting of pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and chairmen of government councils of federal universities in Abuja on September 6 as part of an attempt to find a solution to the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. The meeting was called on the instance of the National Universities Commission, NUC. The invitation letter which was signed by Chris Maiyaki, NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Administration, stated that participants would review steps taken by the government to resolve the strike. ASUU Embarks On Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a comprehensive and indefinite industrial action. The union’s National Executive Council had convened a meeting on Sunday to deliberate the government’s failure to meet their demands. EKSU ASUU Kicks Against Resumption Order

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti chapter, has kicked against the resumption order issued by the management of the institution. Dr Kayode Arogundade, the Chairman of the union, stated this in an interview on Friday. Arogundade however stated that the university’s Registrar, Ife Oluwole, was at liberty to reopen the university which he shut down following the strike by ASUU. The ASUU chairman’s remarks followed a directive by the Registrar asking fresh intakes for the 2021/2022 session to resume on Monday for screening, registration and orientation programmes. Strike: ASUU Reacts To Parents’ Proposal To Pay N10,000 To End Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has turned down a proposal by the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria, NAPTAN, to contribute at least N10,000 per parent in every academic section in an attempt to bring the lingering strike to an end. Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, NAPTAN Public Relations Officer, in an interview said the effort was to assist the Federal Government to meet the demands of ASUU. Does FG Plan To Proscribe ASUU?

The Federal Ministry of Education has responded to speculation that the government plans to prescribe the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. The ministry denied knowledge of any such plans to proscribe ASUU. However, the ministry described as unreasonable, ASUU’s failure to call off its strike despite the intervention of the Minister of Education. This was stated by the ministry’s spokesperson, Ben Goong, in an interview with Punch.
