Nigeria: Buhari Bans Dead Judge from Travelling

The former Chief Judge of Enugu, Late Justice Innocent Azubike Umezulike has been banned from travelling out of the country by the Buhari led administration. The Justice who died on the 26th of June 2018 made the list of 50 high profile Nigerians who were forbidden from leaving the country by a Presidential order. It will be recalled that President issued a Executive Order 6 (EO6) that was ruled legal by the courts. According to Shehu Garba the purpose of the order was to ensure "that all assets within a minimum value of N50 million or equivalent, subject to investigation or litigation are protected from dissipation by employing all available lawful means, pending the final determination of any corruption-related matter." As part of this order, the President ordered the ban of 50 Nig...

Nigeria: They Will Lose Together – Presidency Speaking on OBJ’s Endorsement of Atiku

The presidency has said that it is not bothered by former President Obasanjo's endorsement of PDP's presidential flag bearer, Abubakar Atiku. According to a statement by Shehu Garba, he said "they will lose together. The full text of the response by Shehu Garba to the endorsement is published below: "OBASANJO’S ENDORSEMENT OF ATIKU WILL NOT DISTRACT PRESIDENT BUHARI "The Presidency has received the news of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s predictable U-turn and somersault on the endorsement of the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at a meeting Thursday, and to say that we are the least surprised by the well-rehearsed theatre. "They will lose together. Listening to the prepared statement of the former President after the meeting showed the usual ego trip and “I know it all” c...

Opinion: Extricating Lagos from the Captivity of Bola Tinubu by Femi Aribisala

The drama currently going on in APC over who will be the party’s flag-bearer in the coming gubernatorial election in Lagos is as fascinating as it is disturbing. The same party that schemed to ensure that Buhari is the sole APC presidential candidate for 2019, is determined that Akinwumi Ambode, the current Governor of Lagos State, is not the APC candidate in the gubernatorial election in 2019. If Buhari who has performed abysmally, is given an automatic second-term ticket, why not Ambode? Godfather-cracy All this turns on the whims and caprices of one man, Bola Tinubu; the self-styled “godfather” of Lagos and even South-west politics. Tinubu is determined that Ambode must be unseated, and he has refused the entreaties of the president, the vice-president and other APC stalwarts outs...

Nigeria: Omisore’s Support of APC Shameful – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode has described Iyiola Omisore's decision to support the APC in today's supplementary election as shameful. Fani-Kayode had stated days earlier that Omisore was his cousin and he had spoken to him. He was assured that Omisore will support the PDP. He had tweeted "Iyiola Omisore will not let us down. He is my cousin and I have spoken to him. We are together. We will show Tinubu what happens when the Ifes stand together. We are going to end the APC's reign of tyranny in the rerun on Thursday. @OfficialPDPNig's Demola Adeleke shall prevail." Following the news of Omisore's decision to throw his support behind APC, Fani-Kayode said "Iyiola Omisore's decision to support the APC in tomorrow's rerun is shameful. It is sad that he would seek to deny Ile-Ife the position of Dep...

Nigeria: Osun Elelctions – PDP Alleges Crack Down on Its Officials in the State

The People's Democratic Party has this afternoon alleged that there is an ongoing crack down on its official in Osun state. Ongoing Random Arrest of PDP Leaders/Supporters in Osun State. There is an ongoing crackdown on top PDP leaders at Osogbo,Ile Ife and Orolu in preparation for the grand plot to rig the forthcoming supplementary polls." It noted that one of its top leaders, Aljhaji Fatai Diekola was arrested "At Osogbo, a top leader of the @OfficialPDPNig, Alhaji Fatal Diekola was arrested. Nigeria: Osun Elections – PDP Rejects Inconclusive Verdict by INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party and other stakeholders protested on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the Osun State governorship election inconclusive. The commission also fixed the rerun poll in the seven polling units where election result was cancelled for Thursday, September 27, 2018. Although the candidate of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke scored 254,698 votes to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress who polled 254,345 votes, INEC said Adeleke could not be declared the winner because the number of votes cancelled – 3,498, was higher than 353 by which the PDP candidate defeated Oyetola. The Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, announced the result o...

Nigeria: APC Presents Buhari As Sole Presidential Candidate

The All Progressives Congress has officially presented President Buhari as its sole candidate for the Presidential elections of 2019. Making this known, Maimala Buni, the National Secretary of the party also added that other interested candidates could still pick up the form if they so desire. In his statement, he tried to explain how the President emerged the party's sole Presidential candidate. He said "Once the National executive Committee NEC of the party passes a vote of confidence on the President, that President stands accepted because the NEC is the highest organ of the party and it met to take the decision, where every interest was represented so the National Executive Committee of the APC has passed a vote of confidence on our President and that means every APC member has endo...

Opinion: Open Letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on the State of the Nation – Timi Frank

Dear Sir, I write this letter to you, Mr. President, with all sincerity and humility, as it is my very first letter to you since your emergence as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of our great country, Nigeria. I would first of all like to use this opportunity to formally apologise to the immediate past President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for all the tantrums and mistreatment orchestrated by me against his person while he held sway at the helm of affairs of our great country. Indeed, I and many others may have misunderstood Jonathan’s silence for weakness and thus pushed harder to malign his person and portray him as a weak leader. Having achieved the Change Agenda, it is now crystal clear, that the change we had clamoured for is not the change w...

Opinion: The World Certainly Does Not Want Buhari Back by SKC Ogbonnia

I mentioned this earlier. About ten days ago, I revealed to our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), and fellow Nigerians that the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid. I asserted that the opposition is coming from “influential leaders within our major allies, including Great Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, China, Canada, etc.” I added “that the emerging consensus among these nations is that President Buhari’s second term ambition lacks in cogency. They point to Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings.” However, both the...

Nigeria: Nigeria Suffering International Embarrassment Because of Buhari – PDP

President Muhammadu Buhari has made Nigeria a subject of international scorn. This is the response of the People's Democratic Party to the recent report by the Financial Times which alleged that President Donald Trump , described President Buhari as “lifeless”. In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the party's National Publicity Secretary, the party noted that this was happened when incompetent leaders were put in positions of power. According to them, as a result of inferiority complex, such leaders roam the world seeking validation from world leaders. They also added that the recognition President BUhari was seeking was sadly not based on any tangible achievement after having been in office for about three years. Part of the statement read: "PDP hereby charges Mr. P...
