Japan has advanced to the second round of the World Cup even after losing 0:1 to Poland. Poland went into the match knowing they had already dropped out of the World Cup.

Poland got their goal in the 59th minute through Bednarek and the Japanese were unable to respond through the rest of the match.

The Japanese had 4 points and were hoping to win the match. However, following Senegal’s loss to Colombia, Japan ended up with the same points and goals difference as Senegal.

Japan however advanced to the next round on the basis of better Fair Play points. Poland and Senegal now head home from that group.
