For the first time in the history of the Nigeria Professional Football League, Rivers United emerged as the champion of the football league.
The 2021/2022 season of the NPFL was concluded on Sunday as Rivers United ended their spectacular season with a 1-0 win over Gombe united. The team sits at the top of the table with 77 points with a goal difference of 34.
NPFL teams, such as Mountain of Fire Ministry Club, Kano Pillars, Heartland, and Kastina United were relegated to the lower division of Nigeria football due to their poor performances during the season.

River State Governor Neysom Wike promised to reward each player and sporting official of Rivers United with a million naira for winning the season’s final match on Sunday.
The Governor also added that the N1 million was only a starter compared to what he has prepared for the team for winning the title for the first time in the club’s history.
