The Special Presidential Visitation Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the removal of suspended Vice-Chancellor, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has submitted its report.

African News Today gathered that the report was submitted to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu by Chairman of the panel, Prof Tukur Sa’ad after the completion of their two weeks assignment which commenced on August 26, 2020.

Adamu, who received the report on behalf of Buhari, said: “The visitor of the university, after due consideration of the report, will take a decision on the matter as appropriate in order to restore peace and conducive learning atmosphere in the university of Lagos and the university system as a whole.”

The suspended Vice-Chancellor was removed from office by the Wale Babalakin-led Governing Council over allegations of gross misappropriation of funds and looting of resources. However, there were controversies surrounding his removal as six of the members of the council voted for his removal while four voted against it.

While the controversies ensued, President Muhammadu Buhari stepped in through the Minister of Education to resolve the crisis and ensure the return of due process in the school’s administration.

A review of the law establishing the university also showed that only the Nigerian president can remove the vice chancellor after due consultation with the Council and the Senate acting through the Minister of Education.
