The ranks of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was boosted on Tuesday as two members of the House of Representatives announced their defection at the plenary.
Among the defectors were Aliyu Datti Yau from Kano State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Shiddi Usman Danjuma who moved from Taraba State All Progressive Grand Alliance.
Their letters of defection were read to members on the floor by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Reacting to the development, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, and Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, separately opposed the defections.
Both lawmakers argued that the reason cited by the lawmakers for their defections, which was that there were crises and divisions in their former parties, was untrue and invalid.
However, Gbajabiamila ruled out the protests by the opposition leaders.
The speaker noted that all 24 members from Kano are now in the APC with Yau’s defection.
