Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has urged members of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) to ceaselessly embrace the concept of responsible, investigative and developmental Journalism in the discharge of their duties.
He gave the charge on Thursday at the Exco lounge of the Governor’s office when he received in audience a delegation of NUJ led by its National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo.
Governor Oyetola who spoke through his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi said Democracy today was fought by Journalists, adding that they have the power to build a nation.
He called for a robust relationship between them and the government purposely to strengthen democracy.
Mr Oyetola stated that his government has set up a committee to fast track the digitalisation of the State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC and to equip it with modern technology and the needed tools and facilities to function optimally.
“We know the importance of the our broadcasting station, OSBC and that was why we set up a revitalization committee for OSBC. The committee has come up with recommendations which we are about to implement.
“The purpose of doing this is to upgrade and give the media station facelift for it to compete favourably with its peers”.
He stated further that his government would stop at nothing in making life more bearable for the people, saying that was the reason why his administration has made the people center of its policies and programmes.
“We will continue to priortize the critical needs of our people and that is why we are making all efforts to bring infrastructural development to our dear state”, Mr Oyetola stated.
In his remarks, the National President of NUJ Comrade Isiguzo who was on a two day working visit to Osun appealed to Governor Oyetola led government to ensure that the state owned broadcasting stations are given face lift and fully digitalized saying the giving deadline by the International Telecommunications Union(ITU) is year 2021.
He also lauded the state governor for doing a great job in road construction, education and health sectors.
Comrade Isiguzo equally expressed gratitude for the engagement of some members of the union in governance by the the Oyetola’s led government
