Opinion: Government of the Oligarchs, by their Minions, for the Oligarchs by Babatunde Gbadamosi

Since May 29, 2019, myself and millions of other concerned Lagosians have been urging Governor Jide Sanwoolu to fix the frankly disgusting roads in Lagos.
He responded by initiating a shambolic exercise he quaintly calls “palliative measures”, which essentially consist in a scattering of rough granite stones on damaged portions of road, compacting same and leaving for the next rains to wash away.
When we criticised these obviously ineffectual and hugely expensive “palliative measures”, his explanation was that asphalt could not be laid during the rainy season. As they kept parroting this line, Julius Berger continued laying asphalt on Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Strangely, the rain did not stop them.
The dry season came, and the “asphaltimg” began. Sadly, it was another cruel joke, as the asphalt, such as was observed, was paper thing, barely thicker than an inch or two, and finished with enough undulation and coarse surfaces for the discerning to predict their failure, come the next rains. The undiscerning jubilated.
I had wondered for months.why a government would so deliberately set about making the lives of its own citizens as difficult as they could manage. Today, I got my answer – to make more money through the inevitable traffic offences that will be forced on Lagosians due.to.the poor condition of the roads.
If this were a caring government, the Key Performance Indicators of an agency like LASTMA would be things like reducing the occurrence of traffic jams, the length of time they take, consistent reduction in average commute times for Lagosians, and an actual drop in the occurrence of traffic offences, through driver education schemes and deterrent measures.
Instead, we are ruled by money mongers, whose only care in the world is how much more money they can squeeze out the suffering of the hapless populace.
Governor, it is still possible to prevemt.your name from being consigned to the dustbin of history after your tenure.
Ignore the praise singers and their god. START WORKING SIR!
