Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed has enjoined the management and staff of the Ministry to initiate policies that would engender better service delivery to the people of Lagos State in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S developmental Agenda of the present administration.
The Commissioner gave this charge at the opening ceremony of a three-day retreat with the theme: Redeveloping Hinterland To Meet Up With T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, which was organised by the Ministry for management-level officers in Lagos.
He commended members of staff for their efforts in promoting the Ministry’s activities in the areas of local government administration and chieftaincy matters, urging them to also focus attention on other areas of responsibilities, especially in the areas of community affairs, boundary matters and the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD).
In his words, “Our ministry has vast responsibilities beyond local government administration supervision and chieftaincy matters; we have responsibilities in the rural community development activities amongst others”.
The House Committee Chairman on Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Abdul-Sobur Olayiwola Olawale, in his remarks, advised the staff to internalise all the various laws the Lagos House of Assembly has passed in respect for activities of the Ministry and come up with stronger policies to manage the affairs of the Community Development Associations at Local Government levels to make them better partners in governance.
He sought justification for the support extended by the Legislative Chamber through increased rural projects such as rural electrification, roads, water and culverts amongst others.
According to him, the projects are expected to reduce rural-urban migration and bring the reality of the impact of the good governance that T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda intends to achieve in all the nooks and crannies of the State.
