Ahead of Ondo State governorship election on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed optimism that the All Progressive Congress (APC), candidate, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will be re-elected.
President Buhari gave the assurance yesterday while delivering a virtual speech at the grand finale of the APC governorship election campaign in Akure, Ondo State. He pledged that security personnel will discharge their duties credibly to provide a conducive atmosphere for a free and fair election.
A host of APC stalwarts led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were at the Akure Township Stadium to drum support for the re-election of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Buhari in his record speech rallied support for the party’s flagbearer, Akeredolu, saying that he deserves a second tenure so that he can consolidate on his giant strides in office.
He encouraged the people of the state to turn out in their numbers to vote during the poll, assuring them of their safety.
He said, ”I have no doubt that our candidate is a good brand for the APC to market. I am particularly delighted by his ingenious approach to governance.
”His performance within the limits of available resources is endearing, just as he has taken the state to an enviable level and on the path of prosperity.
”Having had the privilege of commissioning some of his projects, which I consider enduring legacies, I join you here today to declare that Governor Akeredolu deserves to be re-elected to consolidate the good work he commenced in his first term.
”I am not just proud of his achievements; I am confident he will enjoy the mandate of the good people of Ondo State for the second term.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, urged politicians against actions and utterances that could jeopardise free, fair and credible conduct of the election.
He also warned security operatives to be professional in their dealings.
