Mallam Muhammad Bello, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has announced the resumption of schools across the capital city with effect from October 11th, 2020.
The was disclosed by FCT minister during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Mallam Bello said that boarding students will resume on Sunday while academic activities are expected to commence on Monday.
According to the minister, guidelines for the reopening of schools will be released soon. He added that third term will be incorporated in the academic calendar to pave way for the conclusion of the session which was interrupted by COVID-19 pandemic.
Bello stated that the Nigeria’s capital city did not record any new cases of the virus in schools during the reopening for exit classes to sit for their exams, adding that compliance of with stipulated safety guidelines once schools reopen for physical learning.
Recall that the minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, last week permitted the reopening of unity schools across the country on October 12th, 2020. He said that the decision was informed y due consultations with relevant stakeholders and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
The FCT minister added that further guidelines on safe reopening will be released.
