Kenya has been grappling with unprecedented rainfall and flooding, prompting the government to issue evacuation orders, urging residents to relocate to safer areas.
Local authorities had recently ordered the evacuation and demolition of the collapsed building due to its proximity to the river, which posed significant risks.
Tragically, this incident follows another building collapse on May 1st in the Karia area of Kirinyaga County, where one person lost their life. In that instance, a four-storey building under construction collapsed, highlighting the dangers posed by the adverse weather conditions.
As rescue operations continue and authorities assess the aftermath of the collapse, questions regarding safety measures and building regulations are being raised, underscoring the urgent need for proactive measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
