ASUU Strike: APC Youth Leader Intervenes, Meets Ngige, Calls ASUU, NANS

Dayo Israel, the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has disclosed that he initiated talks with the government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to find a solution to the ongoing strike. According to Israel, he met with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige yesterday in Abuja to discuss the lingering industrial action by ASUU. The APC youth leader in tweets on his Twitter handle noted that he equally consulted the presidents of ASUU and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Dozens of young Ethiopians continue to gather at the Russian embassy in the capital, Addis Ababa, on Tuesday following rumours of soldiers being recruited to fight in the war in Ukraine. But the embassy’s spokeswoman, Maria Chernukhina, said no recruitment was being carried out in Ethiopia. She said the crowd was showing solidarity with Russia. 25 Nigerien Migrants Dumped in the Desert by Smugglers

At least twenty-five Niger migrants consisting of women and children have been rescued in the northern Niger desert after they were dumped by their driver. This was disclosed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in a statement issued on Tuesday. The migrants were rescued "last weekend in the Sahara desert by (teams of) IOM and the Directorate of Civil Protection of Niger," said the UN agency in a Facebook post. Nigerien Migrants Left in the Desert The survivors, whose destination was not specified, "remained without food and water for three days" before being found, said the IOM.
