Mexico vs. Nigeria: Super Eagles Get US Visas

The home-based Super Eagles have been granted visas by the US embassy for their high-profile friendly match against Mexico this weekend. 23 players from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will part in the match at the Los Angeles Coliseum due to the unavailability of Gernot Rohr’s regular side, who are preparing for their respective clubs’ pre-season. The team is expected to depart for the US from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja tomorrow. Three–time African champions Nigeria will clash with the CONCACAF Gold Cup holders on  3rd July in what is part of the Mexican’s MexTour Series. Armed Robbers Attack Corpers Lodge, Injure Six

No fewer than six serving corps members were injured as armed robbers attacked their lodge and cart away valuables in Osun State. The Nation gathered that the incident happened on Saturday around 4am at the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) lodge at Dada Estate in Osogbo where corps members are residing. The Federal Government has distributed engagement letters and tablets to the 206 independent monitors engaged to monitor the effectiveness of its National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) in Lagos State. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Mrs. Sadiya Farouk, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Bashir Alkali, said the 206 were among the 5,000 trained between February and April 2021 across the country. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) on Friday released results of candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Saturday, 19th and Tuesday, 22 June 2021. The board added the result for subsequent days would be released daily. The board stated these in a statement by its Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Friday morning. It directed candidates to check their results by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 through the GSM number used by each candidate to obtain profile code and UTME registration with the board and their results would be relayed to them. Corps Member Jailed Two Years for Sex Scam

A High Court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, yesterday sentenced a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyeyemi Caleb to two years in prison. Oyeyemi, serving in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was jailed for sex scam. Officials of Ilorin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Oyeyemi (21) on March 16, 2020 based on intelligence reports. Oyeyemi allegedly posed as a white lady, an online sex worker, to defraud one Wilson (a white man) of $100 in order to offer him sex. He was arraigned on November 26, 2020, and pleaded guilty when the counts were read to him. Justice Adenike Akinpelu sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of fine of N200,000 on each count.

Rohr Names Home-Based Squad for Mexico Friendly

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has named a 25-man home-based squad to face Mexico in an international friendly at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4. Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble and forward Anayo Iwuala and a recalled Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Heartland keeper, top the list of the players invited to camp for the friendly. Also invited are Rivers United defender Ifeanyi Anaemena, Enyimba midfielder Ekundayo Ojo and forwards Ibrahim Olawoyin (Enugu Rangers) and Stephen Jude (Kwara United). Nigeria forward Simy Nwankwo insists he is happy at Crotone despite interest from top clubs around Europe. Nwankwo is expected to leave Crotone this summer following their relegation to Serie B. The lanky forward is not short of suitors following a superlative campaign in the Italian top-flight that saw him scored 20 times in 38 league appearances.
