MTN To Takeover Construction Of Enugu-Onitsha Road

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has ratified MTN’s takeover of the construction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. The takeover is part of the road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme. Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, stated to State House correspondents after this week’s council meeting president by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Fashola said the approval followed Executive Order 7 signed by the President in January 2019. He said the arrangement will allow the MTN to complete the dualization of the 110-kilometre road. Lagos Secures Approval For Second Airport

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has been issued a letter of approval by the Federal Government of Nigeria for the construction of another airport in Lekki area of the State. The approval was issued by Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation on Tuesday at the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit. The Minister was positive that the new airport will provide a better window and provide an avenue for improved international economic partnerships for Lagos State. Reports say the construction of the airport is expected to commence in 2023 and would be constructed on 3,500 hectares of land on the Lekki-Epe corridor. The Federal Government has said that it would be insensitive to the families of abducted passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna train to resume service while some passengers that were abducted by terrorists during the March 28 train attack remain captive. Sanwo-Olu Bans Okada In Four More LGAs, Six LCDAs

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in Lagos State has announced the ban of commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada operation in four additional Local Government Areas, LGAs, and six Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs. Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the commissioner for transportation disclosed this on Thursday, noting that the ban will take effect from 1st September 2022.   Among the affected LGAs are; Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, and Mushin, while the six LCDAs are Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Bariga, Odi-Olowo and Ejigbo. Emirates to Suspend Nigerian Flights Over Non-Repatriation of Funds from Ticket Sales

Emirates Airlines have decided to suspend flights into Nigeria over its inability to repatriate its ticket sales funds back to its home country in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The airline said in a statement on Thursday morning, that all flights from Nigeria will be suspended effective from the 1st of September, 2022. According to the Daily Post, over 20 foreign airlines have $600 million in funds trapped in Nigeria since the start of the year. Boat Mishap: Illegal Operators Cause Rising Death Toll

Over 17 persons have been confirmed dead in the boat mishap that took place at Mile Two in Lagos on Friday night. Around 17 persons were missing when a commercial boat capsized in the Mile Two water canal at 7:45 pm. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed this as of yesterday. NEMA’s coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye said two bodies were recovered on Saturday night. One was a 52-year-old man and the other a 20-year-old lady. Ibrahim further stated that 17 bodies have been retrieved from the Lagos lagoon so far since the boat accident occurred on Friday. The convoy of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has been involved in an auto crash in Abuja on Sunday. Ibom Air cancelled 58 scheduled flights over scarcity of aviation kerosene. The hike and scarcity of aviation kerosene, which is commonly known as jet A1 had resulted in 58 flights been canceled out of  over 1000 flights recorded as at the month of June 2022. At least 11 people have been killed in central Kenya when the minibus they were travelling in overturned. Police in Kitui county say the victims, who were related to each other, were returning from a dowry payment ceremony during the night. Police say the vehicle was being driven at high speed, resulting in loss of control and the fatal crash that occurred at 11pm. “The matatu rolled over, killing ten on the spot. NRC Postpones Resumption Of Abuja -Kaduna Train Services

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Friday bowed to pressure and announced the suspension of the proposed resumption of the Abuja- Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) indefinitely. In its 11th update since the Kaduna bound train was attacked by terrorists on March 28, 2022, signed by Yakub Mahmood, the Deputy Director Public Relations, the corporation said the resumption, earlier announced on May, 16, 2022, to resume on Monday has been postponed.
