Nigerian Govt Mulls Creation Of New Ministry Of Defence

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ibrahim Kana, has said the federal government had concluded plans to create a brand new Ministry of Defence, with a view to repositioning the sector. Mr Kana gave the hint when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Army Headquarters on Wednesday, in Abuja. He said his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari came with a mandate to implement the approved reform of the ministry and armed forces, to enhance efficiency. Suspected jihadists have attacked a military base in Burkina Faso, killing at least 12 soldiers and four volunteers in the process. The military on Friday said 21 troops were also injured in the attack on the Namissiguima military detachment in the north. The assailants are reported to have first attacked the camp with shells.
