Following the threat of herdsmen attack on farms and farmers, the South-East Governors' forum held a meeting at the Enugu government house where it made some resolutions. After the meeting, the governors expressed their fears that the violence that appears to be trailing the herdsmen may spread to their domain. Following this, the governors decided to take proactive measures to ensure this does not happen. Opinion: Many Have Issues, But Few Are Roaming the Streets – Reno Omokri

I thought I had heard all there was to hear until Monday, July 2, 2018 when the Buhari Presidency came down hard on all those opposed to the administration’s cattle colony project. Speaking on a morning show on Africa Independence Television, Femi Adesina, Mr. Buhari’s spokesman said giving land for ranching is better than death! In fact, his exact words were as follows: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive. If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter?” Going further, Femi Adesina opined thus: “Where you have land and you can do something, please do for peace. What will the land be used for if those who own it are dead at the end of the day?” To give some perspective, Femi is talkin...

Nigeria: Army of Internet Trolls Recruited to Malign Me – Ezekwesili

Oby Ezekwesili has taken to her Twitter page to call attention to the unsavory response to her protests. In her tweets, she noted that regardless of what part of the country the injustice she was protesting was happening, attempts were always made to question her motives. In her tweets she said "Here’s the thing. For me, Humanity has: No Ethnic address. No Language. No Religion nor Denomination. No Economic Status. No Political Belief. No Extras. Humanity is SIMPLY HUMANITY. My VOICE SHALL SPEAK whenever & wherever WE FAIL TO PROTECT HUMANITY. "I Protested the inaction of an administration on the KILLINGS and ABDUCTIONS in the North East, some hurled insults & impugned my “motive”. I protested the KILLINGS in the North West, an army of internet trolls were recruited to malign...

Nigeria: Miyetti Allah Thrives on Conflicts – Dr. Nura Alkali

Only the blind will insist on living a 17th century life in 2018. It is northern states that have land for cattle ranches Dr. Nura Alkali, the Chief Consultant Neurologist at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) and a Fulani man has been credited with the following statement on the Fulani Herdsmen crises. "How ironic that, today, it is the Fulani who lack leaders to guide them and pursue their interests through legal ways. Please, don't mention "Miyetti Allah", which is a cattle-breeders' association. I have never owned a cow in my life, and I don't intend to, meaning I have no business with Miyetti Allah. ("Mi Yetti Allah" means "I thank God" in Fulfulde. I'm referring to the group here, not the literal meaning). "Miyetti Allah claims to...

Amnesty international has blamed the Nigerian government for the increase in the killings by herdsmen across the country. Nigeria: Plateau and PDP’s Crocodile Tears – Presidency

The sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau State over the weekend have been turned to opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which says it is declaring seven days of mourning. These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics. The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls, and may remain so for a long time to come, bec...
