BREAKING: Senate postpones Meeting with Service Chiefs, IGP to Thursday

The Senate on Tuesday shifted its proposed meeting with Service Chiefs, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Inspector General of Police to Thursday. Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this at plenary. Lawan said the security chiefs, who are supposed to brief the Senate, are still engaged at the National Security Council meeting which may extend till Wednesday. Nigerian Army Changes Boko Haram War Codename to Hadin Kai

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that the war against Boko Haram in the North-East has been renamed Operation Kadin Kai from Operation Lafiya Dole. The change was approved by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, in a statement issued on Friday, noting it would fortify the fight against insurgency, SaharaReporters reports. According to the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Muhammed Yerima, the army was determined in its drive to exterminate Boko Haram in the North-East region. Air Force probes killing of 20 Soldiers in Aerial Attack

At least 20 soldiers have been feared killed in an aerial attack meant to neutralise Boko Haram/Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP). The Nigerian Air Force through its official Twitter account said it was investigating visuals and reports being circulated. It said: “The attention of the @NigAirForce has been drawn to reports alleging “How NAF killed over 20 Nigerian Army Personnel by Accident in Air Strike” at Mainok which is about 55km to Maiduguri. Geidam, Yobe State hometown of the Acting Police Inspector General Usman Baba Alkali, came under attack last night from terror sect, Boko Haram, sending residents scampering for their lives. Soldiers deployed in the town responded with fire. Some of the terrorists set shops ablaze. Details were sketchy at press time. BBOG Releases Names of 112 Chibok Schoolgirls Still Held Captive

The Bring Back Our Girls movement has released a list bearing the names of all the girls still held captive by the terror group, Boko Haram after their kidnap on April 14, 2014. The list was released by the Lagos chapter of BBOG during a sit-out in Ikoyi to mark the seventh anniversary of the kidnap, Punch reports. Lear Sharibu along with 275 other girls were abducted from their school while preparing for final year examinations. After seven years, 164 were said to have regained freedom. Presidency Reaffirms July Delivery of Six Super Tucano

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to end insurgency in the country. The Presidency said the fight against insecurity will be revved up soon with the expected arrival of six Super Tucano light attack aircraft from the United States (U.S.) mid-July. Already, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 14 personnel are in  Georgia, U.S. for training on how to deploy the jets. The Nigerian Air Force has debunked claims by Boko Haram terrorists that it shot down the missing NAF 476 Alpha Jet, which remains uncounted for after it went off the radar in Borno State.
