NIN: FG Outlines New Conditions for SIM Replacement

The Federal Government has outlined new conditions for telecommunication service subscribers to have their lost, stolen, misplace or damaged SIM cards replaced. This was contained in a statement jointly signed on Friday by the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde; and Head, Corporate Communication, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke. The statement was titled, titled, ‘SIM Replacement Policy For The Nigerian Telecommunications Industry’. The Nigerian Communications Commission said subscribers must present their National Identification Numbers for their SIM cards to be replaced. FG Launches Mobile App for NIN Applicants

Following the directive by the Federal Government for compulsory linking of National Identification Number (NIN) to SIM cards, the National Identity Management Commission has launched a Mobile App for the enrollment of the NIN by applicants. This was contained in a statement issued by Femi Adeluyi, an aide to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has rubbished reports that its website, nimc.gov.ng, has crashed. It said the site is undergoing an upgrade for best performance as many Nigerians seek to obtain their National Identity Numbers (NIN), adding that the site would be available on Tuesday (today). The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the provision of National Identification Number (NIN) by telecommunication service subscribers as part of SIM registration to February 9, 2021. This was contained in a statement released on Monday jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz. SIM Registration: FG Cancels USSD NIN Retrieval Fee

Following the new directive on linking National Identification Number to SIM cards, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ibrahim has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Identity Management Commission to discontinue the N20 USSD fee incurred by subscribers for NIN retrieval requests. The NCC had earlier mandated telecommunication providers to block SIM cards not registered with NIN. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has said government has crashed the cost of data to below 50 per cent of its initial price in January 2020.
