Bishop Matthew Kukah’s Homily at the Funeral Mass of Seminarian Michael Nnadi

Homily of His Lordship Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah at the Funeral Mass of Seminarian Michael Nnadi at Good Shepherd Seminary Kaduna (11th February 2020). 1. We have gathered around the remains of Michael in supplication but also as solemn witnesses to the penetrating darkness that hovers over our country. I have the rare honour of being considered the principal mourner in this ugly tragedy. It is not an honour that I am worthy of receiving. The honour belongs to God Almighty who created Michael and marked out this moment and pathway for him. The greater honour goes to his immediate family whose devotion as Catholics laid the foundation for his faith and vocation. To his grandmother, Mrs. Eunice Nwokocha, a most simple, beautiful and devout Catholic woman whose devotion and dedication sa...

How Can General Buhari Succeed When He Is Surrounded by So Great a Cloud of Liars? by Reno Omokri

I watched Femi Adesina’s interview on Channels Television on Sunday January 26, 2020, and I felt sorry, very sorry for General Muhammadu Buhari. First, his own wife, Aisha Buhari, exposes one of his spokesmen, Garba Shehu, as a liar, and agent of the cabal, whose loyalty to her husband is directed by what he would gain financially. And now, the other spokesman, Femi Adesina, has shown himself to be not just a liar, but an unintelligent one at that. During the said interview, Femi Adesina upbraided Nigerians for complaining about the spate of insecurity in Nigeria. He then went on to say that ‘Nigerians should be thankful that bombing has reduced.’ Continuing, the misguided Mr. Adesina said: “It is not as bad as you make it seem...because we know what the situation was as of ...

Opinion: A Clarion Call for “CAN” to be Banned in Nigeria by Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo

The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN is becoming a threat to peaceful coexistence of Nigeria as an indivisible sovereign country. The Christian body resorted to inviting foreign countries of United States, Britain and Israel to invade Nigeria and handover the country to them, in their selfish interest of enslaving other religious faiths in Nigeria. 2. To us, the so-called CAN body is nothing but one of the numerous religious bodies in Nigeria. Therefore, it should not be regarded as a frightening organization to either citizens or government in all ramifications. It should not be also allowed to be buttressing unnecessary utterances and does what it likes at any time. 3. To all right thinking persons in Nigeria and international countries, Boko Haram is a terrorist group that kil...

Senator Abaribe’s Call on President Buhari to Resign is Foolish – Presidency

President Buhari to resign on what basis? Just because some characters think that President Buhari should resign, then they expect him to quit. That call does not represent the opinion of the country. This is the opinion of an arm chair critic, known for making stray comments. If a leader like President Buhari needs to resign, there are millions of other Nigerians who need to resign, including Senator Abaribe who unlocked the door to enable the escape of traitorous and treasonable suspects. He signed the bond for the court to release Nnamdi Kanu on bail, from which moment the suspect disappeared into the thin air. Senator Abaribe has failed repeated deadlines to return Kanu to the court for trial, yet he has the effrontery with which to accuse someone of failing to the bidding of ...

Amotekun is a Battle Won in the Federalism War – Afenifere

The General Assembly of Afenifere held today at the Àkúrẹ́ home of the Leader, Chief R.F Fasoranti OFR. After exhaustive deliberations on the state of the country, the following communique was adopted: 1, Who killed Funke Olakunrin?: Meeting expressed its disgust with the Nigerian Police Force that almost 7 months after the murder  of our Leader's daughter, the police has stopped any form of investigation into the dastardly act without any briefing to the family. We are left with no option at this stage than to conclude that she was a victim of political assassination necessitating state cover-up. We challenge the police to do its job on this matter in spite of our disappointment with them. We  also invoke her spirit to remain restless until the killers and masterminds of her ...

Junaid Mohammed’s Echo Chamber and the Amotekun Civil War – Reno Omokri

Recently, the firebrand ex Second Republic member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, warned or threatened that Nigeria may experience another civil war if the Western Nigeria Security Network, better known as Amotekun, is allowed to go ahead. His exact words were as follows: “This idea of Amotekun was an act of recklessness. Those who are at the forefront of the Amotekun, while in Abuja they are APC, but when they go back to their respective states, they are something else. So, it shows you that these people are actually unreliable. If care is not taken they will drag us into another civil war and I don’t believe the country can survive another civil war.” With the way Nigeria is currently so polarised, politicians and pundits risk living in an echo chamber, whi...

Opinion: The Public Discourse Over Amotekun – Bola Ahmed Tinubu

This issue has dominated recent discourse and media headlines. Distilled to its basics, it concerns how best state governments can assist with the safety and security of their residents. This is a matter of serious concern entitled to sober thought. However, it has been turned into a political tug-of-war. Fierce, often unthinking rhetoric, for and against, has crossed the lips of too many Nigerians. More subjective talking than objective thinking has been the fuel of this outburst. Question those in favour of Amotekun. Most have but the vaguest notion about it. They know few details yet vigorously attribute to its opponents the most negative intentions. Ask those who oppose Amotekun. They are equally ignorant of its provisions. They oppose the initiative not on its merits but merely bec...

Nigeria: DSS Invade Court while in Session to Rearrest Sowore Despite Court Order (Video)

Officers of the Department of State Services today stormed a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in an attempt to rearrest Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now Movement, and his co-defendant, Bakare. In an unprecedented event, lawyers and other onlookers witnessed a total disrespect for the judiciary as even the Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had to be escorted to her chambers as a result of the disruption. Sowore's supporters fully resisted the attempt at rearresting him even after the court had expressly ordered that he be released and the DSS fined N100,000.00. The presiding Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had yesterday threatened the Director of the DSS with arrest for the continued flaunting of court orders and Nigerians had thought that the DSS had finally decided to obe...

Nigeria: Northern Borders Still Open for Business – Gani Adams

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, has urged the Federal government to fix the Lagos – Badagry road, saying such move will boost the Nigerian economy and further expose the tourism potentials of Badagry as a whole. Speaking during the 2019 edition of the Olokun Festival in Badagry, Adams expressed worry over the closure of the Nigeria – Benin border, insisting that the closure of the border was suspicious, with huge implications on the entire Southwest. “The road leading to Badagry town and its environs are in deplorable stage and nobody even cares. For the past seven years, this town had been abandoned with little facilities I have said it severally that this road is bad.The road has become death traps for commuters plying the road daily. For instance, travelin...
