Insecurity: Sokoto Govt Seeks Shut Down of Telco Services

The government of Sokoto State has the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) to direct all telecommunications companies to shut down their services in 14 LGAs in the state. This is coming less than a week after the house of representatives asked the NCC to shut down telecommunication services in three LGAs of Sokoto. In a circular seen by TheCable, the state government had asked Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, to issue a temporary shutdown of telecommunication networks in some LGAs as a measure to bring an end to banditry and other criminal activities in the state. A pastor of a church, the Glorious Gospel Fire Assembly in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, identified as John Onu, has been killed by a police stray bullet at his house while observing his morning devotion. According to Tribune, the stray bullet from the officer hit the pastor in the heart on Monday and went out through his back. Mob Burns 13 Suspected Bandits To Ashes In Sokoto Divisional Police Headquarters

An angry mob on Saturday attacked the divisional police headquarters in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killed and later burnt 13 bandits to ashes. It was gathered that the bandits had invaded the town around 8 pm on Friday where they killed two people including a shopowner. However, on Saturday morning, angry youths joined police officers from the area to go after the bandits and as a result 13 of the suspected bandits were apprehended in Tangaza forest and were brought to the divisional police headquarters. A villager who pleaded for anonymity disclosed that when the bandits were brought into the town, residents followed the team to the divisional police station and demanded that the bandits must be killed in their presence. Bandits released ten students of Bethel Baptist School in Kaduna on Saturday with 21 others still being held captive. The Vice President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (19 Northern States and Abuja) and chairman of CAN in Kaduna State, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, confirmed this to Punch on Saturday evening. He said, “10 students were released this (Saturday) evening and have reunited with their parents. Major CL Datong, who was kidnapped during an attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State by bandits last month has finally regained his freedom. DAILY POST recalls that some gunmen suspected to be bandits broke into the Nigerian foremost military school on August 24, killed officers and abducted Major CL Datong. The abducted Major has been in the kidnapper’s den till he was rescued on Friday. DSS Reacts To Igboho’s N20B Claim

The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that it has not been informed about the court judgment ordering it to pay N20B in damages to Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho. Peter Afunanya, spokesperson of the DSS who spoke on Friday said the court has not informed the DSS of the judgment. He said this when he was asked for the reaction of the DSS on the judgment. “The court possibly has not informed us. House Of Zamfara Speaker, Others Set Ablaze By Bandits

Bandits have set the home of the Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, and other residents ablaze in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Chairman of the Committee on Security and Prosecution of Bandits in Zamfara State, Abdullahi Shinkafi, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said the bandits invaded the community and set ablaze some houses including that of the speaker. Gunmen Free About 70 Abducted Zamfara School Pupils After 12 Days In Captivity

Pupils of Government Secondary School, Kaya, in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State numbering about 70 have been freed from captivity. Their abduction of 73 students of the school by suspected bandits was confirmed by the the state police command on September 1. The pupils were abducted on September 1 following which the state governor, Bello Matawalle, ordered the closure of all primary and secondary schools in the state. The governor also imposed a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00a.m. curfew in 14 local government areas of the state. The Nigerian Television Authority reported the news on its Facebook page overnight.
