Kenya Crash Kills 11 Returning From Dowry Ceremony

At least 11 people have been killed in central Kenya when the minibus they were travelling in overturned. Police in Kitui county say the victims, who were related to each other, were returning from a dowry payment ceremony during the night. Police say the vehicle was being driven at high speed, resulting in loss of control and the fatal crash that occurred at 11pm. “The matatu rolled over, killing ten on the spot. Two more dead bodies have been recovered from a flooded zinc mine in Burkina Faso, the government said on Saturday. Millions of litres of water have been pumped out of the site owned by Canadian firm Trevali as rescue efforts continue. The case has caused outrage in the country. Rescue efforts has continued in Burkina Faso as workers try to reach eight miners who have been trapped underground for more than two weeks. The zinc mine at Perkoa flooded following heavy rain last month. Six of the miners are from Burkina Faso and the other two are from Zambia and Tanzania. At least twenty-five Niger migrants consisting of women and children have been rescued in the northern Niger desert after they were dumped by their driver.
