DSS Operative Shot Dead by NSCDC Official in Osun State

  An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) named Seyi Adebowale was shot dead by an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Sunday Dade in Osun State. Adebowale was gathered to have been shot in Kuta, Ayedire Local Government Area in the palace of the traditional ruler after the commissioning of a bridge built by the Nigeria Army which was flagged off by Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, on September 15, 2020. Update: FG Orders Reopening of Unity, Private Schools

The Federal Government has approved the reopening of all Unity Schools in Nigeria with effect from October 12. Government shutdown schools indefinitely in March as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, disclosed this during a news briefing in Abuja on Friday. Adamu also stated that private and state schools are allowed to fix resumption dates. He added that schools who fail to comply to stipulated COVID-19 safety guidelines, risk being shutdown if there is an outbreak from such schools. “We have come to the conclusion that we have to review our decisions. After consultation with PTF, we have resolved that our Unity Schools be opened on October 12, 2020,” he said.

Kogi Govt Mourns Victims of Tanker Explosion

  Kogi state government has declared a two-day mourning period in commemoration of those who died in the tanker explosion in Felele, along the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Wednesday killing over 25 persons. The victims which included three nursery school pupils, five students of the state-owned polytechnic, and passersby were burnt beyond recognition in the explosion. The explosion was said to have been caused by a head on collision between a fuel-laden tanker and another vehicle.
