Breaking: Violence Erupts in Abakaliki

Abakaliki, the state capital of Ebonyi State has once again erupted in violence as gunshots rent the air in major parts of the city. The violence which began around 3pm caused panic in the city as residents scampered for safety. It was unclear where the gunshots were coming from or who was firing but reports circulating online said the Central Police Station Onuebonyi has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums. Police and other security agencies were also reported to be engaging the hoodlums in a gun duel at the time of filling the report.

#EndSARS: Buratai, GOCs Meet over Protest

The top hierarchy of the Nigerian Army, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, General Officers Commanding (GOC) of the Divisions and Operation Commanders, are currently in a meeting where they are brainstorming on the recent threat to national security caused by the #EndSARS protests. The meeting is holding in the Army Conference Room at the Defence Headquarters and shortly before it went into closed session, Buratai condemned unnamed international organisations for threatening to issue travel bans to Military Officers over alleged violation of human rights. He disclosed that the conference will discuss current security challenges in the country.

#ENDSARS: Lagos State Govt. Sets up Panel of Enquiry for Victims

Lagos State Government has set up a panel of enquiry for victims of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) related abuses and Lekki Toll Gate incident. According to a press statement released by the Secretary, Lagos SARS Panel, Mr. Babajide Boys, members of the public are to submit memoranda at the public sitting of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up by the state government. According to Babajide, the new venue for the sitting is ‘Lagos Court of Arbitration, 1A Remi Oluwole St. 2 Roundabout, Lekki Expressway, Lekki Phase 1, Estate, Lagos. “Days of sitting include Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and the time of sitting is 10am – 4pm.” Memoranda submission can be done at the venue to the Registrar or through the email judicialpanelonsars @lagosstate.gov.ng.

No Jailbreak in Ikoyi Prisons, fire Contained – Officials

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Lagos has stated that the fire that broke out in a part of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre has been controlled. The service also dismissed fears there was a jailbreak in the facility, insisting that the fire only affected a part of the centre and did not involve inmates. Spokesman for the service in Lagos, Rotimi Oladokun said there was no cause for alarm, adding that a statement would be issued soon. He said: “There was fire on a part of the correctional centre but it has been contained. It did not affect the inmates in any way. There is no jail break and all is fine. #ENDSARS: Thugs Raze Ondo PDP Secretariat

The Ondo State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been set ablaze by thugs in the state capital, Akure. This development is coming some hours after the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress was also razed. The APC had earlier blamed the PDP for the attack on its secretariat while the PDP was yet to respond before the hoodlums attacked. Two vehicles parked within the premises of the Ondo PDP secretariat were razed. The Spokesman of Ondo PDP , Kenney Peretei, described the action as barbaric adding that it was shocking for the party’s secretariat to be razed few hours after the APC accused it of burning its secretariat.
