Fayemi Begs ASUU to Shelve Strike for Student’s Sake

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to shelve the ongoing industrial action in the best interest of the students. Fayemi stressed the need for urgent and holistic engagement between Federal Government and the leadership of ASUU in order to bring an end to the current impasse. Nigeria: No Date for Reopening of Orientation Camps – NYSC

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that there is no official date for the reopening of camps nationwide. There has been widespread reports on social media that Orientation Course will resume 27th October 2020 with Batch “A” Stream 2 and that the batch has been subdivided into Batches “A” and “B”. The Corps said it was waiting for approval for the reopening of orientation camps having made a presentation before the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Lagos state chapter has debunked claims by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige that the union’s strike action was informed by disagreement over the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and that the salaries of lecturers were being paid in full while on strike. The union also alleged that it was yet to be informed of a meeting to be held next week where Ngige claimed ASUU would demonstrate its purpose-built University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) software which it plans to replace IPPIS. Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has pledged commitment to implement agreements reached with organised labour which led to the suspension of planned strike and protest over the increase of electricity tariff and petrol pump price. Kyari said NNPC would diligently implement the agreement reached on Sunday between labour leaders and Federal Government. Nigeria: NLC Insists on Strike Commencing 28th Sept. 2020

The Nigerian Labour Congress has doubled down on its position that there will be a Nation-wide strike from the 28th of September 2020 unless their demands are met. In a post shared on their Facebook Page, the union said "STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET." STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET. Posted by Nigeria Labour Congress HQ on Sunday, September 27, 2020 It will be recalled that a court ordered the strike to be put on hold, an order which the union does not appear to be willing to obey. Fashiola, Ngige Approve Reinstatement of TCN staff

  Former retired staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Dr. Chris Okonkwo has been reinstated back to the service of the company. According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Comrade Nnamdi Ajibo, Okonkwo’s reinstatement followed review of petitions and due investigations by the Ministers of Power and Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige and Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). According to the statement which reads in part: “Recall the illegal, malice and impunity-driven action of premature retirement of our President  General, Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo (DBA, FNSE), from the services of TCN, vide a letter dated 24th April 2020, by the former MD TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed.”
