Biafra: Sit-At-Home Order Paralysis South-East States

In celebration of this year's Biafra day on May 30th, Biafra agitators staged a sit-at-home protest which was said to have recorded about 95% compliance. The decision to stage sit-at-home protests to mark Biafra celebration day started last year as a result of the clamp down by Nigerian authorities on their non-violent street protests. According to Amnesty International, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed by the nation's security operatives at several peaceful protests. With the current sit-at-home protests, no violence is recorded and no lives are lost. The government is however not happy about the success these protests keep recording. According to Evang. Uganda: President Museveni Imposes Tax on Social Media Usage to Curb Gossip

A new law has been passed by the Ugandan parliament to impose a social media tax on its citizens. The law which is billed to take effect from 1 July will see Ugandans paying 200 shillings ($0.05) as daily levy for the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others. While pushing for the law, President Yoweri Museveni said that the use of these social media platforms greatly increased gossip. The President said the funds that will be generated from this tax will help the government manage the effects of gossip locally known as "olugambo". The Finister Minister, Matia Kasaiji, on his part said the government needed funds to improve security and electricity so the people can enjoy social media more often. Burkina Faso: Death Penalty Abolished in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso has joined the league of nations to have abolished the death penalty. According to Rene Bagoro, Burkina Faso's Justice Minister, the newly adopted penal code will promote a "more credible, equitable, accessible and effective justice in the application of criminal law. The local media however believe that the move is not unconnected with the administration's desire to have the brother of former President Blaise Compaore, extradited from France to face the murder charges against him. Francois Compaore is currently being held by French authorities. Nigeria: Okada Rider’s Death Triggers Mob Attack On Police Station

An angry mob attacked the Ibeshe Police station in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Wednesday following the death of an Okada rider that morning. It was learnt that an Okada rider by the name Paul who hails from Ebonyi state died on Wednesday morning following an accident he had the night before. The Okada rider was said to have been trying to avoid a police checkpoint when he was chased by the police into the gutter. Following the accident, the Police officers were said to have taken the Okada to their station while leaving the Okada rider there in the gutter. The Okada rider was later taken to the hospital by friends and family where he died the next morning.
