The president of the Gabonese Football Federation (Fégafoot), Pierre-Alain Mounguengui, has been arrested after being charged with failing to report allegations of sexual abuse of hundreds of children in the sport. The scandal, revealed by the British daily The Guardian in December 2021, broke when Patrick Assoumou Eyi, coach of the national under-17 team until 2017 and a well-known figure in Gabonese soccer circles under the nickname "Capello", was jailed after being accused of hundreds of rapes and sexual assaults on children for whom he was responsible in his duties for several years. Health workers in Senegal went on strike to protest at charges filed against six midwives accused of negligence in the death of pregnant woman that sparked nationwide anger. Justice Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting at Ikeja on Monday remanded a suspected imposter, Abiodun Bolarinwa, in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre over fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in January 2022 arrested the defendant, who claimed to be a military general to access a N270m loan from a transportation company, Kodef Clearing Resources. Reports say that Bolarinwa allegedly told the company that President Muhammdu Buhari shortlisted him for appointment as the Chief of Army Staff and he needed a quick grant to process the appointment. Law The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday struck out eight of the 15 counts filed against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Mr Kanu was accused of various offences in the 15 counts, including treasonable felony and terrorism, offences he allegedly committed in the course of his separatist campaigns. A military court in Burkina Faso on Wednesday sentenced former president Blaise Campare to life imprisonment for the murder of his predecessor Thomas Sankara in a coup. The long-awaited verdict brought to close, a six-month trial about the murder of Mr Sankara, who was assassinated during a coup led by his friend and comrade-in-arms, Mr Compaoré, on October 15, 1987. Thomas Sankara Military prosecutors in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, had requested a 30-year sentence for Mr Compaoré, who was being tried alongside 13 others.
