Lagos Commences Rapid Waste Recycling, as Sanwo-Olu Launches Initiative

Lagos State Government on Thursday introduced a new culture of waste disposal and management with the launch of Blue Box Initiative aimed at achieving greener city and wealth generation. The initiative was launched by the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Simpson Transfer Loading Station on Lagos Island. Saying it is a component of the health and environmental regeneration agenda of his administration. The Governor, who described the programme as a fulfillment of his campaign promise, said Lagos could no longer depend on unprofitable waste management system. Two BRT Buses Involved in a Head-on Collision

Two BRT buses were involved in a head-on collision on Monday at Asolo, Ikorodu road in Lagos while trying to avoid knocking down  Okada riders who were illegally plying the route. This was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) via their official Twitter handle. The accident which occurred on the BRT corridor resulted in traffic gridlock as onlookers flood the scene of the crash. Although the casualty figures are yet to be confirmed as at the time of this report, eyewitnesses said many who were injured have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Lagos State Government on Monday emphasized its readiness to boost the capacity of Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators in the state through the provision of equipment to increase their capacity with soft loans. Fasawe, who is a seasoned medical practitioner, until her appointment, served as the Director in charge of Special Projects in the Lagos State Ministry of Health. Fasawe boasts of impressive track record of meritorious service to the State. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Wednesday urged  residents to properly dispose of their domestic wastes during and after the forth-coming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The Assistant Director, Public Affairs of LAWMA, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, disclosed this in a statement that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure that the celebration was observed in a filth-free environment, as waste evacuators have been mandated to work round the clock to clean up the city.
