My Mum Abused Me Physically, Verbally and Spiritually

African parents abuse their children all in the name of home training and discipline. I saw an article online and I totally agree with it. African parents abuse their children all in the name of home training and discipline. My mum abused me, yes she did. She did that both physically, verbally and spiritually. Its funny though but till now I am still traumatized. My dad was a little understanding, but he was out most times so I always had my mum to deal with. My mum would beat me for playing, she would beat me for coming second or third position in class, she would beat me for not wanting to eat swallow, she would beat me for coming back home with a dirty school uniform, my house was a living hell. My mum had a collection of "kpankere" she used to buy and keep in the house jus...

Nigeria: Muslim Rights Concern Gives Falz 7 Days to Withdraw Video

Falz is once again the center of attention with regards to his "This is Nigeria" video. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has given Falz a 7-day period within which to withdraw the video and apologise to Nigerians. According to the group, if he does not do this, he will face legal actions. The group particularly had issues with the girls dancing "shaku shaku" while dressed in hijab. They also commented on the Fulani man who was shown beheading someone after dropping his traditional guitar. Falz' attempt at explaining the concept of the video - where the girls wearing hijab and dancing "shaku shaku" represented the Chibok girls - was found unacceptable to the group. The group believes among other things that the video could instigate religious unrests as according to them it was in...

South Africa: Girl School’s Naked Cultural Performance Sparks Outrage

A video of some school girls performing at a competition wearing very skimpy outfits, has sparked serious outrage. The outfit which leaves the breasts and buttocks exposed is known as "inkciyo" and is a traditional wear of the Xhosa ethnic group, the second largest ethnic group in South Africa. Following the outrage, the choirmaster of the school said he was proud of their performance. According to him, "We are proud of our Xhosa tradition. We are proud of 'inkciyo'. We are proud of Xhosa women and girls." However, the basic education minister sees it differently. She described it as an "indignity [which] goes against the values of our cultures". She went on to say "It is completely inappropriate on the part of educators and they should know better than to expose teenage girls to ...

Nigeria: Multi Choice, DSTV/GOTV to Shut Down

Nigerian authorities have notified the management of MultiChoice DSTV/GOTV that their operations in Nigeria will come to an end in 2019 as their license expires June next year. Fashion: Dress Like You by Lois Emmanuel

You are not truly free until you can be who you are without apologies. No truer words have ever been spoken. There are many ways by which we express ourselves and fashion happens to be one of the most because it is a visual medium. Let’s be honest, one of the first things a person sees when they look at you is what you wear, which is why it is so easy to judge a person by what they wear. The two most common ways people dress are : i) To Impress. ii) To Express. Dressing to impress in this context means wearing things in such a way to please other people; maybe because because an invisible law says you should. Dressing to express, on the other hand means wearing things that you like and feel comfortable in, no matter what anybody thinks. SOME REASONS WHY PEOPLE DRESS TO IM...
