Reps Move to Suspend FG’s 774,000 Jobs Scheme

The House of Representatives on Tuesday moved for the immediate suspension of the controversial Special Works Scheme of the Federal Government. The National Assembly had been broiled in dispute with the Federal Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity over the recruitment of 774,000 workers for the scheme. The House during plenary on Wednesday advised the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning against funding the scheme which is scheduled to commence in January 2021. The legislature had earmarked N52bn to fund the exercise in the 2020 Appropriation Act. It was planned to take off in November. 190,000 Applicants Jostle For 9,460 NIS, NSCDC Jobs

Over 190,000 applicants are jostling for 9,460 job slots at the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The candidates sat for the examination today in 126 centres across nationwide, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The examination, which was computer-based, was conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).   The Federal Government on Tuesday directed Batches A and B beneficiaries of the N-Power Programme who did not receive payment of their stipends to report to their various state focal persons for verification and revalidation. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, who gave the directive in Abuja stated that efforts to resolve unpaid stipends withheld due to various discrepancies in records of the beneficiaries were almost being rounded off.     The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that there is no official date for the reopening of camps nationwide. There has been widespread reports on social media that Orientation Course will resume 27th October 2020 with Batch “A” Stream 2 and that the batch has been subdivided into Batches “A” and “B”. Nigeria: NLC Insists on Strike Commencing 28th Sept. 2020

The Nigerian Labour Congress has doubled down on its position that there will be a Nation-wide strike from the 28th of September 2020 unless their demands are met. In a post shared on their Facebook Page, the union said "STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET." 774,000 FG Jobs: States Get Extension

  Some states that have been unable to complete the recruitment process of artisans for the 774,000 Special Public Works (SPW) programme of the Federal Government have been granted one week extension. Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo said the October 1 commencement of the programme is still on course.
