The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Abuja chapter, has declared that the ongoing strike by the union continues, daring the government to inform Nigerians of any concrete action taken to address the concerns of the union. This was stated by Dr Kassim Umaru, UNIABUJA branch chairman, in an interview with journalists at the end of its Congress on Tuesday. ASUU NEC To Make Decision On Strike Sunday

The National Executive Council of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will decide on the continuation or suspension of the ongoing industrial action on Sunday, August 28, 2022. Reports say the meeting is expected to take place at the union’s national headquarters at the University of Abuja. The decision of the union will be based on reports from different state congresses that are expected to be conducted before then. Angry Lecturers Leaving Nigeria In Droves – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has lamented the mass exodus of academics from the country’s universities, owing to the lingering strike and government’s inaction. This was disclosed by the President of the union, Emmanuel Osodeke, who stated that several lecturers have resorted to alternative means of livelihood. He noted that while some have taken to farming, others had travelled out of the country in search of better fortune. The Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, NASU, and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has announced the suspension of their strike, effectively on Wednesday. This was disclosed by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of both unions in a statement issued by Mr Peter Adeyem, on Saturday. The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has expressed resolve to sue the Federal Government over the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. NANS argued that the strike which has rendered university students idle and extended their expected period of graduation is actionable and they will be seeking redress in court for their members. ASUU Strike: What FG Proposed As Increment In Professor’s Salaries – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has disclosed why a resolution is yet to be reached with the Federal Government. Stanley Ogoun, the Port Harcourt zonal coordinator of the union, in a statement stated that the Federal Government offered to increase the salaries of professors by N60,000 while that of other lecturers ranged between N30,000 to N60,000. Shun Politicians With Children Abroad – ASUU President

Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called on Nigerian students to shun politicians who enrol their children in universities abroad. Osodeke made the call during a Twitter Space Webinar, organised by Premium Times, tagged, ‘ASUU strike, Revitalisation Fund and the Way Forward.’ Proffering a lasting solution to the incessant strike by the union, Osodeke said students should not vote for politicians who would not stand on the side of the people.
