ASUU Lost 30 Members to COVID-19, Ogunyemi Says During Farewell Speech

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said that about 30 members of the union died as a result of the COVID-19 virus. JAMB Extends UTME Registration By Two Weeks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board yesterday said the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry earlier slated for June 3 will now commence from June 19 to July 3. The board also announced a two-week extension for candidates to register. The registration exercise will end on May 29. The board also said the Mock UTME earlier scheduled for 20th May will now hold on June 3. The board stated these in a communique issued at the end of a two-day meeting in Abuja. JAMB May Shift UTME Date – Oloyede

The possibility of shifting the date for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is very high, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said yesterday. The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said during a virtual meeting with 2021 UTME Committee members that  over 600,000 candidates who indicated interest  in sitting for the exams, were yet to register. The exam is scheduled for between June 5 and June 19. He said the candidates were finding it difficult to register due to the challenges of National Identification Number (NIN). Kano approves New Minimum Wage for Lecturers

Kano State Executive Council (SEC), on Thursday, approved implementation of a new wage for academic and non-academic staff of its two universities. The council also okayed a monthly release of N49.7 million, Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba, said while briefing reporters in Kano. The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, has said the Federal Government’s failure to fulfil its agreements with the union by the April 30th deadline has put it under pressure to resume the suspended strike. The union lamented that the government had yet to begin payment of the ensuing adjustments for the new national minimum wage and the allowances contained in the earned allowance.
