Kenya Confirms Bid for 2025 World Athletics Championships

Kenya on Tuesday confirmed its bid to host the 2025 athletics world championships, which if accepted, would bring the event to Africa for the first time. Nairobi has hosted both the world under-18 and under-20 world championships in the last four years, but faces a string of high-profile rivals including Tokyo, which staged the Olympic Games in July. “We formally confirmed our bid to host the global championships on Friday, October 1 which was the deadline set by World Athletics,” Athletics Kenya chief Jackson Tuwei told AFP. Kenyan Immigration and diplomatic authorities have claimed no involvement in the arrest and “extradition” of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was alleged to have been arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria. Her death was confirmed by her daughter, Marsat Obama, who disclosed her mother passed on at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kisumu in the early hours of Monday, Nairobi News reports. Late Onyango was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning. The chances of school girls in Kenya continuing their education after lockdown have been threatened by spate of pregnancy among school-going girls in the country. Teen pregnancy has surged in the five months period of lockdown imposed in the country as measure to check the spread of fatal corona virus disease. A Health Information Survey conducted in Kenya reveals that about 4,000 school girls have been impregnated over the course of the lockdown.
