Is Military Coup Imminent in Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe’s Home affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe has rebuffed rumours of a coup d’etat being hatched. He made the address on behalf of the Working National Security Council at Munhumutapa building, Harare. The council reiterated the commitment of the country’s armed forces which they described as “loyal, professional and dedicated to their constitutional mandate”. The council blamed the rumour on former members of the ruling ZANU-PF, some mischief makers in the military and members of the opposition. Kasidau, Maigora and many nearby settlements in Katsina state have been attached by bandits in the late hours of Tuesday, 9 June, 2020. Information said sporadic shots were fired, people scampered for safety while the bandits burnt houses and rustled a yet to be identified number of cattle. The communities are part of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. Recently, inhabitants of Yantumaki town in Danmusa Local Government Area had expressed their displeasure over the spate of attacks and killings in the state. Update: COVID-19 Cases Recorded in Nigeria Rise to 13,464

Latest update published by the Nigerian centre for Disease for Disease Control (NCDC) shows that Nigeria has recorded fresh 663 cases of coronavirus. It brings the total number of cases in Nigeria to 13,464 with 365 deaths while 4206 have been discharged. It read, “663 new cases of #COVID19; Lagos-170, Ogun-108, Bauchi-69, Ebonyi-49, Edo-33, Rivers-30, FCT-26, Jigawa-26, Delta-20, Anambra-17, Gombe-16, Kano-16, Imo-15, Abia-14, Borno-11, Oyo-11, Plateau-8, Kebbi-6, Kaduna-6, Ondo-4, Niger-2, Katsina-2, Osun-1, Ekiti-1, Kwara-1 and 1 in Nasarawa-1. “13464 cases of ‪#COVID19Nigeria. School children in South Africa resumed classroom activities on Monday, 8th June 2020, as government starts to ease restrictions imposed on the country to curb the spread of corona virus. Resumption of schools was delayed in the country after teachers’ union advised members to ignore the order by the government to resume last week, stating that schools lacked adequate health measures to keep both teachers and pupils safe. CAF Disburses CFA120 million to Member States Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

African football governing body has followed the footsteps of FIFA in disbursing funds to member states to assist in the fight against Corona virus. CAF issued out cheques to representatives of member associations. The continental football governing body will also release an additional 6,393 million CFA francs that will see each federation receiving up to 120 million as subsidy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Football in Africa had been halted in March to curb the growing spread of COVID-19.
