Edo residents of Benin City could not contain their excitement as they took to the streets on Sunday to celebrate the declaration of Obaseki who vied under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the Saturday election. Some of the jubilant residents trolled a former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, who was the major force behind the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governor Godwin Obaseki has garnered the most vote cast in 14 local government areas as INEC continues announcement of results for the Edo State governorship election. Obaseki is leading his closes rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the opposition All Progressive Congress. Results from 14 local government areas announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission show that Obaseki scored a total of 254,169 while Ize-Iyamu polled 163,429. Results from the remaining eight LGAs will determine the ultimate winner of the keenly contested election.
