The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced governor Godwin Obaseki as the winner of Edo State governorship election held on Saturday. The victory meant Obaseki has secured a second term in office after seeing off contest from his opponents with a wide margin. INEC disclosed Obaseki’s victory on Sunday afternoon after he polled the highest number of votes in the Edo election. Obaseki who contested the election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated his closest opponent, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress with a difference of 84,336 votes.

The Emir of Zazzau,  Alhaji Idris, is dead. He passed on at the age of 84 in the early hours of Monday. A family source who spoke to Sahara Reporters said, “It is confirmed. He had some health issue on Friday and was taken to hospital where he died. His body would soon be transported to Zaria for burial.” He was the 18th Fulani Emir of Zazzau.

Flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu has failed to win his Local Government Area as Godwin Obaseki bettered him. The federal government has kicked against the visa restrictions imposed on some Nigerians by the United States (US) owing to election rigging during the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States.
