Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has recalled how he ended a four-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,  in a single night. Jonathan disclosed this in Abuja during the 70th birthday celebration of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, put together by Kukah Centre. According to the former president, it required his intervention and determination to resolve the contending issues with the university lecturers. ASUU Strike: FG convenes Meeting Of Varsity Councils, VCs

The Federal Government has convened a meeting of pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and chairmen of government councils of federal universities in Abuja on September 6 as part of an attempt to find a solution to the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. The meeting was called on the instance of the National Universities Commission, NUC. The Abuja court of appeal has upheld the nomination of Sherrif Oborevwori as the Delta State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The court overturned the judgement of a federal high court in Abuja that asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize David Edevbie as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the guber poll. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a comprehensive and indefinite industrial action. The union’s National Executive Council had convened a meeting on Sunday to deliberate the government’s failure to meet their demands.
