Abdullahi Adamu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman has blamed the party’s defeat at the Osun State Governorship Election on internal crisis.

Adamu said the defeat of the party was not due to a lack of capacity to emerge victorious but due to internal wranglings that deemed their chances.

He stated this during an interview on Tuesday with BBC Hausa.

Recall that Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled a total of 403,371 votes to defeat the present governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of the ruling APC. Oyetola garnered 375,027 votes to finish second.

Reacting to the outcome, Adamu said, “We lost the race not because we are incapable but because of the crisis within. We had a massive gathering of supporters a few days before the election in Osogbo. No one could ever anticipate that we would lose the election.

The APC chair, however, expressed optimism that the APC will perform better during the 2023 general elections.

He added, “Osun defeat doesn’t in any way mean that we will lose at the general election. We only lost one state out of the 22 we have; you see, we are still strong.

“We will sit and check ourselves. We must ask ourselves what is right and wrong and what needs to be corrected.”
