President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates the Nigeria women’s football team for qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Super Falcons qualified for the World Cup for the ninth consecutive time after Thursday’s quarter-final win over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the Women s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON 2023, holding in Morocco.
The president issued a statement through his special adviser on media, Femi Adesina, praising the team for their outstanding performance in the tournament and for winning the title a record of nine times.

He also commends the team for becoming the most prominent African women’s football team on the continent.
The president assured the Super Falcons that the whole nation is in full support of the team and will cheer them on until the final whistle in Morocco.
Under the President’s administration, The Falcons won the WAFCON title twice in 2016 and 2018.
He also prayed that the team surpassed their previous achievements in their last Women’s World Cup in 2019, where they made it to the round of 16 in the tournament for the first time in fifteen years.
The President also mentioned that he awaits the coming of the younger generation of female footballers who will eventually bring home the World Cup title.
