The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of the 2020 Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations will be released next week.
Students sat for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination between August 17, 2020 and Saturday, September 12 2020 after the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu had granted permission to schools to resume prior to the examinations. It came after schools across the federation were shut down in March to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The results were schedule to be released today, 45 days after the examination but the council said the delay was due to violence which affected some of its offices and impacted on its nationwide operation.
The violence was occasioned by thugs who took over the peaceful #EndSARS movement in the country, prompting state governments to impose curfew in their states to control the spate of violence.
The examination body in a tweet on its Twitter handle @waecnigeria, on Wednesday said, “WASSCE SC 2020 Results Release Date: Dear candidates, the Council had planned to release the results today in fulfilment of our Project 45 but due to the curfew imposed last week, it had to be postponed till next week.
“The exact date will be made known soon.”
