Tinubu Appoints Argungu Police Service Commission Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has approved several key appointments within the Police Service Commission (PSC), marking a significant move in the administration’s effort to enhance the operational efficiency and integrity of the Nigerian police force.

President Tinubu has appointed DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd) as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission. This position holds substantial influence over the management and administration of the Nigerian police force, and Argungu’s extensive experience is expected to bring robust leadership to the PSC.

Chief Onyemuche Nnamani has been appointed as the Secretary of the Commission. Nnamani’s role will involve overseeing the administrative functions of the PSC and ensuring that its operations align with the broader goals of the Nigerian government in policing.

In addition to these appointments, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd) has been named a member of the Commission. Lakanu, known for his commendable service in the police force, is anticipated to contribute significantly to the PSC’s mission of enhancing police services in Nigeria.

These appointments, as outlined in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, are subject to confirmation by the Senate. This legislative endorsement is a crucial step in legitimizing the appointments and ensuring that they align with national interests.

The statement also indicated that additional members of the Police Service Commission will be appointed in due course. These future appointments are expected to further strengthen the Commission’s capacity to oversee the police force effectively.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has appointed Mr. Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF). This appointment is with immediate effect, reflecting the urgency and importance of the role. The NPTF plays a critical part in funding and supporting the operational needs of the Nigerian police force.

President Tinubu has emphasized the need for the newly appointed officials to exhibit integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in their respective roles. “The President expects absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall wellbeing of the Nigeria Police and the nation,” Chief Ajuri Ngelale stated.
