In a recent interview, former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, made important observations about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of numerous failures and attributing Tinubu’s rise to the presidency to luck. Lamido expressed these views on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday.
During the interview, Lamido contested the widespread belief that Tinubu was responsible for building Lagos. He argued that Lagos was developed with funds from the Nigerian government, not by Tinubu’s efforts. Lamido cited significant infrastructure such as ports, airports, and bridges in the southwestern state as evidence.
“I know Tinubu very well. I also know him as the Governor of Lagos. I know his capacity. He’s on top of the country. He didn’t build Lagos. Lagos was built with Nigerian money. I mean the port, the airport, bridges,” Lamido stated. “Tinubu never built Lagos. Lagos was built by the Nigerian government for him to benefit from. When you say Tinubu built Lagos, he never built Lagos. He is now lucky he is the president. His government is doing everything wrong.”

Lamido, who served as Foreign Minister during Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State, emphasized his deep understanding of Tinubu’s capabilities and limitations. He criticized the current administration’s approach and highlighted what he perceives as its widespread failures across all sectors.
“For me, APC from the very beginning is not a political party for Nigeria. In 2015 they were simply aiming to get power and appropriate it. We are now seeing it. The failure of the APC government led by Tinubu as the president is known by every Nigerian, in all sectors,” he declared.
Lamido also pointed out that Nigerians are disillusioned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and are eagerly awaiting the return of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power. He mentioned that the PDP is currently consulting with stakeholders to reconstitute and reconcile the party to better serve the Nigerian populace.
“When we get the PDP properly reconstituted and reconciled, we will be able to take over power because Nigerians now are waiting for the PDP. They have been calling me. I know their feelings. I know what they want,” Lamido affirmed.
Furthermore, Lamido accused some PDP beneficiaries of betraying the party, underscoring the need for unity and reconstitution. “There is an issue of merger on the PDP’s table now. We want to reconstitute the party and reconcile aggrieved members. Nobody owns the PDP. It is owned by Nigerians,” he concluded.
