Senate Confirms Garba as NERC Chairman

Following the nomination of Engineer Sanusi Garba by President Muhammad Buhari, the Senate has confirmed his appointment as Chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The red chamber also ratified the nominations of Dr Musiliu O. Oseni as Vice Chairman, and Aisha Mahmud as Commissioner.

The upper legislative chamber confirmed the nominees following the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Power.

Gabriel Suswan, Chairman of the Committee, said the findings showed that the “nominees are qualified to hold the positions ascribed to them on the Governing Board of NERC, under Section 34(1) of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, (EPSA) 2005.”

Suswan added that while there is no petition against any of the nominees; the panel was “satisfied with their performances, experiences, and competencies.”
