Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked Northern voters to reject candidates from the South during the 2023 general elections.

The PDP flagbearer said this while responding to a question asked by the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, during an interactive session with Arewa Joint committee in Kaduna State on Saturday.

Atiku said Northerners should not vote for a Yoruba or Igbo presidential candidate but should rather cast their vote for him, describing himself as a Pan-Nigerian with northern extraction.

Responding on the question posed by Baba-Ahmed on why Northerners should support him, Atiku said, “What the average Northerner needs is somebody who’s from the north and also understands that part of the country and has been able to build bridges across the country.

He added, “This is what the Northerner needs, it doesn’t need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate, I stand before you as a Pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”
