The Nigerian Red Cross Society in Enugu has established a partnership with the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to tackle issues of violence against health workers, health facilities, and vehicles to ensure safe access to delivery of health care in the State.
This partnership was established during a high-level courtesy visit the Red Cross paid to the Commissioner of Police in the State.
Expressing his delight with the peaceful collaboration that has been existing between the Red Cross and the Command, the Branch Secretary of the Red Cross Hon. Tony Udegbu, stated that the collaborative effort has led to several joint operations that have in no small measure alleviated human suffering in the State.

The Secretary, while decrying the spate of violence against health workers and facilities, said that it poses a huge a challenge to effective delivery of safe and appropriate healthcare. He added that the Red Cross was leading a campaign to sensitize the public and raise awareness about Health Care in Danger, HCiD, emphasizing the crucial role of the Nigeria Police Force towards achieving this goal.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Lawal, while describing the Red Cross as critical partners in the emergency line, commended the team for the visit, stressing that interactions of this nature remain vital in making the partnership work better.
He commended the HCiD project and stated that his Officers across the State were at home with the compulsory treatment of victims of gunshot law and will continue to make conscious efforts towards sensitizing the public. He noted that the joint move will further enlighten and educate the general public and other stakeholders on the treatment of victims of gunshot law.
The Commissioner further assured the Red Cross of the Command’s maximum support towards achieving the HCiD project goal and also called for more collaboration between the two institutions to address humanitarian challenges in the state.
