Doyin Okupe, the Labour Party, LP, Vice-presidential candidate (place-holder), has disclosed that the party is likely to name its substantive running mate to Peter Obi between Wednesday (today) and Friday.

Okupe, the Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation disclosed this on Tuesday when he featured on Channels Television while naming Senator Datti Baba Ahmed among others as being in the running to clinch the position.

He stated that Peter Obi would make the announcement of his running mate himself. Okupe added that Obi alongside the party were exploring the option of a politician in his youth from the northern part of the country who fits into the party’s ideology.

Okupe said, “Senator Datti is being considered. Others are being considered too. These things will be decided this week [it’s going to be an announcement from Peter Obi] very very likely.

“I’m sure about Senator Darti being the running mate but I know that this matter will be concluded before Friday.

“Senator Datti is being considered along with other people whom we’ve engaged and talked with.

“The emphasis is this, we’re looking for a young vibrant politician of northern extraction with a measure of intellect, sound background, pedigree and education. That is what we’re looking at,” he said.

Recall that Peter Obi and the Labour Party picked Doyin Okupe to temporarily occupy the Vice-presidential position in order to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. A substantive running mate is expected to be named soon.
