Following the declaration of a Biafra Customary Government by a former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, the Arewa Consultative Forum has stressed its belief in a one Nigeria.

The group disclosed this in an interview with SaharaReporters on Tuesday.

African News Today had reported that Dokubo had declared himself the leader of the Biafra defacto Customary Government, BCG, on Sunday.

Dokubo had also named leaders in the new government alongside himself, in the statement signed by the BCG’s Head of Information and Communications, Uche Mefor.

Reacting to the development, the forum through its National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, said the North is committed to the unity of Nigeria rather than agitating for succession.

According to Yawe, the country had fought a civil war to keep Nigeria as one, stressing that the lessons learnt from the war should not be easily forgotten.

He said, “We are not interested in the Arewa Republic. We believe in one Nigeria, we fought a civil war to keep Nigeria one and we cannot fight a civil war only to declare an independent nation again.”
