Following the rumoured death of the leader of the gang that carried out the Offa robbery that claimed about 33 persons, some Civil Society Organizations have called on the Police to produce him or face legal action.
The leader of the gang, Michael Adikwu who is a former Police officer was rumoured to have been shot by the Police in custody as a means of getting confessions from the others.
While making their demand, the CSOs said “If he (Adikwu) has been killed, the police should come clean and name his executors, this is in keeping with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI),” the petition said.
“We demand an immediate investigation into the disappearance of this suspect, and we ask respected international human rights organisations to call on the Nigerian government and the police to produce him.
“Failure to produce him, we will petition the International Criminal Court and also petition all embassies with evidence so as to revoke visas of the IGP and other human rights violators.”
The group also called for an independent probe into the robbery as it appeared the Police had become compromised on the issue.
While reaction to the rumour, the Police spokesperson Mr Jimoh Moshood said the rumours where false. He said “We will parade him soon, once they recover all the weapons.”
