The keenly contested battle between APC and PDP in the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Ekiti state of Nigeria has been won by the ruling party, APC. For many months before the elections, it was clear that the battle for Ekiti’s government house was regarded as a do or die affair by the two leading parties.
According to the returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, Kayode Fayemi of APC won the election with 197,459 votes while his PDP opponent, Professor Olusola Eleka got 178,121 votes.
Of the 16 local government areas, APC won in 13 while PDP won in only 3.
With this win, Fayemi returns to Ekiti government house for a second tenure. He had lost to Fayose after his first term which ran from 2010 to 2014.
