The Lagos State Assembly has set up an Ad-Hoc Committee to unravel the alleged precarious activities of officials in the State Surveyor-General’s Office and other surveyors in the State.
Similarly, the House called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the Surveyor General of the state to overhaul his office with a view to curb the activities of some surveyors in the state.
These resolutions were sequel to a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Sanai Agunbiade during plenary and unanimously adopted by the state legislators.
Mr. Agunbiade while speaking on the import of the motion, stressed the need “to curb the nefarious activities of surveyors in the state and added that the non composition of disciplinary committee on survey matter, as provided by the existing law, has encouraged discrepancies and quackery.
In his contribution, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Olumuyiwa Jimoh stated that the Surveyor Registration Council should enact strategy to discipline erring members.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Shomolu constituency one, Mr. Rotimi Olowo advised that the state should look at the issue of equipment for surveyors and that there was no good record keeping in the office of the Surveyor General of the state.
The Speaker of the assembly, Chief Mudashiru Obasa subsequently instructed the Clerk, Mr. Azeez Sanni to inform Governor Sanwo-Olu of the resolutions.
The House also resolved to commence review of the state’s Survey Law in order to accommodate emerging realities.
